Feeding a nation goes beyond distributing food—it means empowering people to grow, raise, and sustain their own supply. That’s the heart behind the Agriculture training in Poultry and Fishery Farming, held at the Multipurpose Hall, Ministry of Women Affairs, Fillin Gamji, Katsina, as part of the 9jafoodfiesta Empowerment Program.

This transformative training falls under 9jafoodfiesta’s nationwide vision to empower 2,000 youths, women, and persons with disabilities in all 36 states of Nigeria—a bold mission targeting over 72,000 empowered individuals. In Katsina State, the initiative was brought to life through a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs, led by Honourable Commissioner Hajiya Hadiza Yar’adua, impacting over 2,500 people in one month.
At the Agriculture training centre, participants were introduced to two key areas of agricultural entrepreneurship:
- Poultry Farming (Broilers & Layers)
- Fishery (Pond Setup and Management)
The training went far beyond theory. Participants learned practical skills like:
- Raising chickens from chicks to maturity
- Mixing poultry feed using cost-effective formulas
- Preventing and managing common poultry diseases
- Calculating production costs and profits
- Understanding how to scale a small farm into a sustainable business
- Pond setup, fish feeding routines, and water management in fishery
The classes were conducted every Saturday and Sunday for a full month, making it easy for participants to absorb the information, ask questions, and begin mapping out their business plans.
The goal wasn’t just to teach—it was to equip participants with the knowledge, confidence, and direction to run successful agricultural businesses and become food producers in their communities.

Now that the training has concluded, the participants are hopeful and eager to receive:
- Their certificates of completion
- Invitations to the grand closing ceremony
- And potentially, startup support from the Katsina State Government—such as chicks, fingerlings, feeds, or equipment—to launch their small-scale farms
This training center has planted seeds — not only in the soil but in the minds of its participants. Seeds of independence, sustainability, and impact. With the right support, those seeds will grow into enterprises that feed families, communities, and beyond.
